Are Valentino bags with no serial code fakes?

Hello, everyone.

Last year I had a very strange story with an extremely popular (especially among Instagram influencers) Valentino bag. It was a Rockstud Spikes Transparent Bag. The retail price at Neiman Marcus was $2,445.

I also fell under its spell and I wanted it so badly but I was not particularly ready to pay this amount for a PVC bag.

I found a girl who had a very good personal discount at one of the European multibrand stores. When I got the bag with 40% off, I was so happy. But when I found out that the bag had no serial code, that's when I started to panic. A little bit...

I owned several Valentino bags and each and every one of them had a serial code (except for real vintage ones). So, I started to surf the internet for the pictures of this particular model on different resale platforms. Some of the bags had this code, some of them - not.

I didn't know what to do.

I am a luxury bags reseller and I have been authenticating bags for the past 8 years. And the only one question for me was about THIS serial code. Cause everything in this particular bag looked fine. I was unable to find any information online about Valentino bags with no codes, apart from couple of stories when sales assistants reportedly said that some bags may have no serial numbers. I couldn't believe the rumors - I needed to double-check this information myself!

So I did!

I asked two Valentino sales assistants in different countries while traveling - both of whom confirmed it to me personally. You will not find serial codes in bags issued after 2018 because they all have some kind of undetectable radio frequency identification (RFID) tag inside. I also found out that if you're gonna be lucky enough, they can let you check where and when the bag was purchased by scanning this tag in a boutique.

Couple of weeks ago I received a new evidence about above-mentioned fact - a brand new Valentino VRING bag (the seller is trusted) with no code again.

This bag is 100% authentic.

Later, I bought this Rockstud clutch. Also 100% authentic. With no code!

So, here is the news - no more datecodes in Valentino bags. If you want to buy a preloved one from the latest collection on a resale platform, be careful and check all the details before purchasing it.

Here are some tips how to authenticate Valentino bag from the latest collections:

1. Plastic stickers on the hardware are BLUE;

2. Metal parts are heavy (!) and well-made;

3. The dustbag is light beige with a red textile patch with Valentino logo on it.

These are the most obvious signs of an authentic Valentino bag.But of course there are a lot more specific details which are harder to identify without special knowledge.

Hope this post was useful for you.
